Case Study
Noa Botanicals
An agribusiness focusing on the intersection between plant medicine and Hawaii
Noa Botanicals embodies a sense of place in Hawai’i by nurturing the connection between the island’s rich culture and values, sharing a safe and inclusive environment for all patients.
Challenge
Cannabis is the product and the base of the inspiration but not the entire focus of the mo’olelo. The objective of the brand is to flip the narrative and help support the ideology of safely medicating with pakalolo. The key to developing the brand was to be inclusive of all audiences — new patients, existing and potential patients, and adventurous patients.
Our Approach
How can we be a cannabis dispensary while breaking the negative stigma established in the 80s? We focused on the values of Noa Botanicals and went head on with the symbols of the stoner stereo types from the 70s — bandanas, funky organic shapes — and made them using elements of class and culture. To implement our inspiration from the ‘ohe kapala, we created our own symbols that represent reframing, ‘ohana, clarity, and mālama.
