Established by Mark Ruiz, Tricia Ruiz, and Rodney Baptiste, Break + Feast is their second successful restaurant concept. The dishes and flavors are rooted in each of their journeys through the culinary world and adventures around the world. In 2023, they opened their doors to the island of Kauai at Koloa Village with a fresh brand identity system.

Challenge

A new restaurant concept but with similar flavors and dishes to sister restaurant, Kiawe Roots. We were approached with the opportunity to develop a system that continued the story.

Our Approach

The identity system draws inspiration from Kiawe Roots, a Hale Aina Award- winning sister restaurant, utilizing similar shapes and typography. The concept embodies a brunch-to-steakhouse transition, symbolized by the sun and moon, where sun rays represent gatherings around a feast. Cultural heritage is reflected in a Hawaiian quilt pattern featuring key ingredients like star anise, ginger, and annatto seeds.
